Speaking through the Loom
While living in Antigua, Guatemala, I collaborated with local artisans to learn about traditional arts and the women who sustain them through their vibrant, intricate textiles. Speaking Through the Loom celebrates backstrap weaving as a tradition and heritage.
In these weavings, color and form become a language of their own - a visual syntax through which artisans express their stories, beliefs, and collective memory.
Through my photographs, I pursue to document this process - to capture not only the textures and patterns of the textiles, but also the presence and personality of the women behind them. I hope this work allows this form of art to continue resonating across time and culture.
